Normally this time of year, Kansas Voting Data would be updating census information based on the American Community Survey, released in December every five years. But this year – for the first time ever – the U.S. Census Bureau announced the release of the ACS will be delayed, citing the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The Census Bureau anticipates the data will be available in March.
In a statement issued in late December, the Census Bureau said:
“The Census Bureau recognizes the critical importance of the ACS 5-year data, in particular, on government and business decision-making and the need for quality ACS data for that purpose. Over the next month, the Census Bureau will conduct quality reviews to ensure that this methodology is performing appropriately at all levels of geography and that the resulting data meet our quality standards.”
KVD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
